#ShopSmallSaturday - This week introducing Nikki from Rose&Guy

I hope you are all enjoying my #shopsmallsaturday blog interviews? You can find all my previous interivews at www.happycatkids.co.uk/latestnews

Every Saturday I am featuring a different small business, getting to know a little more about the business and the people behind the brands! This week I interview the fabulous Nikki from Rose&Guy

I hope that by reading this interview you may find another small business to support or if you're interested in maybe starting your own business, you may find some inspiration here too...

Hi i’m Nikki from Rose&Guy, selling scandinavian inspired children clothing from 0-3m up to 5 years. My range includes bloomers, dresses, blouses, top knots and lots of unisex pieces such as rompers, shorts and T-shirts too.

  • What’s your guilty pleasure?

Haribo, i’d eat a bag a night if I could. Tangfastics are my fave!

  • What makes your business a little different from the rest?

It’s so hard because the children clothing industry is so saturated but I’d like to think its the fact that i make all of my items from home whilst being a mummy to my two children. I try and share our reality and home life within my stories as much as possible.

  • What TV show could you happily lose a day bingeing on?

Friends!! I watch it every night before bed and i think I know every word off by heart lol!

  • What is an absolute non-negotiable in your day?

Instagram! Whether its a simple post or full stories. This platform is what got my brand started and continues to be the main way people shop with me so without fail I have to be active on it.

I actually really enjoy it and is one of my favourite parts of running my business!

  • Tell us one thing about your business that you are most proud of?

I‘m just so proud to actually call it a business and not just my hobby. I still can’t really believe this is my full time job and I get to do something I absolutely love every single day!!

  • What topic would you speak about if you were asked to give a TED talk on something outside of your main area of expertise?

Interior design, I’m absolutely obsessed with my home and really enjoy styling it and researching into current home trends.

  • What’s your favourite ever product that you currently sell or have sold?

Top knots, I just absolutely love them on! And love that they can finish off any outfit and at any age and that I can make them in lots of different colours too!

  • What is the best or most worthwhile investment you’ve made? Could be an investment of money, time, energy, or other re-source. How did you decide to make the investment?

Investing in talented seamstresses to help with my work load and free up more time to design again and to gain a better work life balance (this still needs improving though lol)

  • What’s been the biggest change to you and your business during this crazy Covid-19 lockdown?

Upgrading my postal service, I now do it all online from home so that I can drop all parcels off to the post office contactless. It will also mean when life goes back to normal and the kiddies join me on the post office run that they will no longer have to queue up with me for ages!

  • What’s your favourite thing about running your own business?

The flexibility of it, being able to choose the times I work to suit our family best. ie during school holidays I can work nights to have the days to spend with my kiddies.

  • What do you or would you outsource if you could?

I already outsource seamstresses but would love to be able to go part manufactured to give me even more time to focus on designing

  • Who or what inspires you?

Laura from The Modern Nursery, she started her nursery brand from scratch mainly just through Instagram like myself and has created a successful business. She’s actually now my mentor and helps me so much in growing my business.

  • Do you have a favourite quote or just one you really like? Why do you like it?

‘In a field of roses, she is a wildflower’ - It reminds me so much of my daughter and she’s such a huge inspiration into what I create for Rose&Guy

  • If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out with their business or wanting to start, what would it be?

Believe in yourself, anything is possible!

  • Do you have any new products that you’re excited to tell people about?

I absolutely love our new Rattan hangers! They’re such a cute item to display special outfits on!
