Our Brands: Spotlight on Tikiri

I hope you are enjoying reading my brand spotlights? If you haven’t had chance to read them yet, you can do view all my previous blog posts here.

This week I would like to tell you a little bit more about a fantastic brand who won 'Ethical Toy of the Year' at Spring Fair 2020 - Tikiri Toys

Tikiri – which means ‘teeny tiny’ in the native language of Sinhala – is based in Sri Lanka. By sourcing and producing all their toys locally, Tikiri greatly minimise both their carbon footprint and their impact on the environment. Not only this, but the factory has a fantastic reputation for looking after the welfare of their employees, holding both BSCI* and SMETA* certification, and demonstrating their commitment to the 10 principles of fair trade.

The family behind Tikiri has spent most of their lives making soft toys for leading global brands. In 2013, they took their abundant love and knowledge of toys and toddlers and launched Tikiri. Tikiri is dedicated to making only top-quality handcrafted toys that promote a child’s physical and emotional development.

Tikiri offer natural, handmade alternatives to mass produced plastic toys to help children unplug, learn new skills, and interact with the real world.

This collection of toys uniquely combines texture, touch and personality, to help introduce babies and toddlers to the wonders of the world around them. Handcrafted from eco-friendly and sustainable natural materials, they are the natural choice for every child’s formative years. These toys are made to the highest standards of production and quality. Made from 100% natural rubber from the latex of the Hevea tree and ethically sourced organic cotton*, the range offers toys suitable from birth to 3 years.

When babies begin teething, not only can it be quite distressing for both baby and parents to want to soothe and help but also you may start to worry about the safety of the things your babies are putting in their mouths. That is why I love the Tikiri range of teething toys as all their baby toys all meet the following standards:

                         - 100% pure natural rubber                          - Certified plastic free baby toys - BPA free & Phthalate free                          - Biodegradable, non-toxic and eco friendly baby toys                          - Handmade & hand painted in Sri Lanka                          - Socially responsible manufacturing

This is such a lovely brand whose values really fit with my own here at Happy Cat Kids. I hope that moving forward the choices we make for our children's play and clothes are not only driven by style and price but also on the impact on our environment. I truly believe that small changes made by many people can make big differences! Whilst some people go all in for a total plastic-free lifestyle, if that scares you a little then how about choosing just a few gifts each year that are more ethically sourced and/or more sustainable. One of my favourites from Tikiri is the natural rubber dragon rattle that comes in a beautifully presented gift box which makes a fantastic gift for a new baby. I also love the organic cotton and natural rubber elephant and bunny first teddies.

I hope you love the fantastic range of Tikiri Toys as much as I do!
